2008 Heineken Amsterdam Sevens

The 37th Edition will be held on May 17 and 18, 2008 in Amsterdam

Organised by 'Stichting Rugby Promotie Amsterdam' in co-operation with AAC-Rugby, Amsterdam

AAC has been organizing the Amsterdam Heineken International Rugby Sevens at their own grounds since 1972. This tournament belongs among the established tournaments in Scotland, Hong Kong, England and Australia to the top of Sevens Tournaments in the world. Many international Rugby internationals from all over the world will entertain in a spectacular fashion thousands of rugby enthousiasts.

Sevens Rugby is rugby at its finest. In contrast to the normal 15-a-side game there are only seven players on the pitch. Hence the name Sevens. The games are short, two times seven minutes and the final a tiresome two times ten minutes. The advantage of this all is that the rugby is fast and very open and easy to understand. All this guarantees really spectacular rugby.

The preliminaries begin on Saturday, the final qualifiers on the Sunday morning and the Big Finals on the Sunday Afternoon on the field of the Dutch National Rugby Stadium. The finalists play for the much coveted "Silver Pier". This award , a model of the pier of Ijmuiden, Symbolizes the way to the heart of Amsterdam, AAC Rugby and the Heineken Amsterdam Sevens.

The atmosphere around the Sevens is partially due to its international character unique. The enthusiastic supporters, sometimes in some pretty fancy dress, play an important part in the events of this truly unique occasion. And on the pitch there is a competitive but always fair fight for victory. The Amsterdam Heineken International Rugby Sevens is top rugby in a relaxed atmosphere. A true joy to play and also to watch. In short, not something you want to miss out.
